Lady Vikes Snap Losing Streak with Thrilling Five-Set Victory Over Spokane Falls

After four consecutive losses, the Big Bend Lady Vikes returned home to face Spokane Falls Community College in a crucial match as they approached the halfway mark of conference play. Despite a sluggish start, BBCC fought hard to secure a much-needed five-set victory and get back on track.

The Lady Vikes struggled in the first set, falling 25-14, but bounced back in a thrilling second set that saw them outlast the Sasquatch 28-26. BBCC kept the momentum going in the third set, taking it 25-16. However, their hopes of closing out the match in the fourth set were dashed as Spokane Falls rebounded with a 25-21 win, forcing a decisive fifth set.

In the final set, BBCC came out firing and secured the win with a 15-11 victory, snapping their losing streak and energizing their conference campaign. The Lady Viking offense was firing on all cylinders, with four players reaching double digits in kills.

Natalie Evers led the way with 18 kills at a hitting efficiency of .350, along with 5 block assists. Casey White added 10 kills at a .368 hitting efficiency, while also recording a solo block and 1 block assist. Olivia Louie chipped in with 11 kills, and Patricia Kirby rounded off the well-rounded offensive attack with 13 kills. Head Coach Alexa Moser had this to say regarding the victory.

"We had lots of girls step up big time for us tonight. Having multiple girls in double digit kills is tremendous, along with several girls with double digit digs, averaging 20 digs per set, it was all around a solid night of volleyball. We started off on the wrong foot, losing 25-14, nothing looked good for us at all; passing, hitting, defense, we just couldn't get anything going. But switched the line-up around and the girls found a way to flip a switch and we looked like a brand new team out there. If sets 2-5 Big Bend Volleyball shows up this second half of the season, we'll find ourselves on the winning end of some of these competitive matches."

Moser also added.

"This was a big win for us in more ways than one. We are still without Audrey so we're working through different line-ups and we finally got our first win at home. After going through the first half of season and a few of those matches not going the way we wanted, I'm happy with the response tonight. It was a good team win, everyone contributed and it was just fun, competitive volleyball to watch."

Trying to right the ship, Moser highlighted their past week and how they prepared by stating.

"After some much needed time off, this week of practices has been very focused on just competing. We've done a lot of positional work, especially with players in new positions but in the end, these girls all know how to play volleyball and so finding a way to better the ball and fight for every point, they executed that to a T tonight. One of our main goals every match is "to be fun to watch" and the girls did exactly that. These 17 girls are so selfless and celebrate each other's success more than their own and seeing the smiles and the shoving each other on the court after a big block or kill, you can tell they just enjoy each other and enjoy the game of volleyball."

After snapping a four game skid, BBCC prepares to hit the road again as they face off versus Columbia Basin College on Wednesday October 23rd.
