Lady Vikes Rally for Victory Over Spokane Falls in Conference Play

Following a tough loss to open conference play, the Big Bend Lady Vikes traveled to Spokane Falls Community College to face the Sasquatch in a tightly contested match. Spokane Falls took the first set in a dramatic 26-24 battle, but the Lady Vikes bounced back with a vengeance, winning the next three sets by scores of 25-20, 25-2, and 25-13 to secure the 3-1 victory.

The Big Bend offense came alive, with three Lady Vikes posting double-digit kills. Natalie Evers led the charge with 11 kills at an impressive hitting efficiency of .526, while Audrey Wellhausen contributed 10 kills and 4 block assists. Patricia Kirby also chipped in with 10 kills, helping the Lady Vikes take control after the tight first set. Head Coach Alexa Moser had this to say regarding the win.

"This was a fun game. There was a lot of good volleyball. Set 1 was frustrating because we just came out flat and not ready to go. It was like we weren't expecting it, back on our heels, reacting very slow to the powerful offense that Spokane has. But the girls fought back even in set 1 and found a way to just compete even though we came up short. We carried that over into set 2 and just never let up from there. We served very tough last night which put a lot of pressure on Spokane and got them out of system and kept us in our rhythm."

Not only did Moser touch on her thoughts of the game but had this to add regarding the ramifications of the win.

"I'm very proud of these girls and their performance last night. I think it's a good reminder that we are a competitive program and we know how to win. The East is a very competitive region in volleyball and that's the caliber we have to play at to be successful but we know we can do it. Set 1 was a reminder of where we were at least year but we flipped that around and proved what we are capable of."

After a tough first game Moser recaped their week of practice and how they prepared by stating.

"Practice this week has been focused on offense, becoming more efficient at putting balls away. And it was nice to finally see that translated into our play. We had three girls with double digit kills and that highlights not only the effectiveness of those hitters but being able to spread out our offense and know that our setter can throw a ball up to anyone and we're going to get a point. Ball control was and always is a focus and we definitely struggled in set 1 but turned it around and found a way to get in system for the rest of the match and it shows because of how successful our offense was."

After a solid win the Lady Vikes prepare to take on Blue Mountain Community College this upcoming Friday. As always, keep up with the Vikings on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
