Timberwolves Take Down Lady Vikes

Coming off of one of their most competitive matches of the year versus a top NWAC team, Head Coach Alexa Moser was optimistic going into their match on Friday October 20th versus Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, OR. Unfortunately the Lady Likes could not bring the same caliber of play versus a lower level team resulting in a 3-0 loss. Moser had this to say regarding the teams play "After coming off the loss Wednesday against NIC but playing so competitively, we were excited going into this match. It was our second time seeing Blue, and we played them so early on in the season that we felt like they hadn't seen the Big Bend team that showed up against NIC. But from the first whistle to the last, I don't think we ever really all showed up. We had moments of being on and things going our way but not consistently enough. It was like we could never find a rhythm on our side."

Nearing the tail end of the season, Moser highlighted the fact that the program has struggled with the same obstacles throughout the course of the year. "Again, we struggled with what we've been struggling with all season and that's starting strong. We dug ourselves an 8-1 deficit in the first set, even got down to 21-12 but ended up only losing 25-19, and that's just frustrating because it proves we have so much heart and fight as a team, but if we wouldn't have let them score 8 straight points at the start of the set, the outcome might've looked a little different for us. The second set was a little more of a back and forth battle but then we start making all these unforced errors at the end of the set and that's when you have to play your cleanest volleyball and we just couldn't seem to find the court. The third set just isn't anything to talk about, you can't be up 24-19 and not finish the set with a win. And that just comes down to mentality. We were just waiting for them to make a mistake, and give us set point but no matter if you're playing the best team in the region or not, teams aren't just going to give away points at the end of a set, you have to go out there and earn it."

After dropping a match on the road that BBCC expected to go their way Moser had this to say "This is definitely the most frustrating loss this season. To go from playing the number one team in the region and giving them a run for their money and competing at a high level to not even showing up against a team that's more our caliber is disappointing. We just couldn't get anything going, offensively or defensively. Audrey Wellhausen had a great night but again, you can't expect to win games with only one player being on. Moving forward, we have to find a way for everyone to be on the same page to be successful, we can't keep relying on 1-2 girls." Wellhausen put together another stellar offensive showing with 8 kills while Emma Lucas did her thing dishing out 22 assists in the loss.

BBCC prepares for a stint at home as they host Spokane Falls on Wednesday October 25th and Treasure Valley Community College on Saturday October 28th.
