Lady Vikes Drop Three Straight Versus Warriors

Lady Vikes Drop Three Straight Versus Warriors

To wrap up a busy week the Lady Vikes traveled to Walla Walla Community College to take on the Warriors. A physically drained BBCC squad struggled to keep their heads above water with this being the fourth match in seven days. To this point in the season, the Lady Vikes defense is what has kept them in matches, their ability to prolong rallies and steal points has been what has kept them competitive. Unfortunately, late in the season fatigue is starting to set in putting more pressure on the offense which has been hot and cold.

The match versus Walla Walla highlighted this fatigue as the Lady Vikes dropped three straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-13 with Dakota Killian collecting 7 kills throughout the match. Moser had this to say regarding the busy week "It was definitely a long week for us, and you could tell the girls were just physically and mentally drained. We had been focusing a lot on our passing so we could be running an in system offense and we struggled with that. It just felt like we were trying to keep the ball in play and you can only do that for so long in a rally because eventually you have to put a ball away and we couldn't seem to finish plays. When we were in system, things were going well and we could run our middles and we executed almost every point. But we just need to find a way to do that for more than a few points a set."

Moser has an in-depth understanding of how her team operates and and has made it clear what they must do to turn the season around "One of the main things that I have emphasized this season, is that we have to work for our points. The east region is very competitive and good teams aren't just going to give away free points, we have to earn them. And when we do that, things start to really click for us. Again, we just started slow in every set and when you dig yourselves a hole of 6-7 points at the start of a set, it's hard to catch up. But in the second set we were trading points back and forth and there was the fight that we've seen from these girls all season but it just wasn't enough."

Although the season has not been favorable in the win loss column for the Lady Vikes, Moser emphasized the mentality that they must continue to invest in throughout the remainder of the season "It's frustrating to add another loss to the record. We just have to find a way to compete every point. Volleyball is such a mental game and if don't have a mentality of playing to win throughout the entire match, teams will take advantage of that and run with that momentum. We have moments where we start to find our rhythm, and our offense is clicking, we just need to find that more. Because when you're trading points back and forth, it's hard to find consistency when you're just going from rotation to rotation."
