Searching For A Spark

A busy week opened up for the Lady Vikes volleyball program as they hit the road to Spokane Falls Community College to take on the Sasquatch on Monday October 9th.

Frustration has began to build for the Lady Vikes as they have gone cold since entering conference play. Heach Coach Alexa Moser expressed her concerns regarding the teams consistency stating "We have been focusing a lot on serve receive in practice so that we can be running an in system offense and it's frustrating to not see that correlate in matches. Our passing was nowhere near what it should've been and it's hard to find a rhythm when our first touches are all over the place. But we're also too quick to go into panic mode when we do get out of system, we start looking at each other waiting for someone else to take the ball instead of just trusting each other to do their job. In the end, I just want to see the girls fighting for every single point and competing for 25 straight, and we have moments of that and you for sure saw it in set 3 but it needs to happen more and happen consistently."

Understanding that they must take each match one point at a time, BBCC came out sluggish versus Spokane dropping the first two sets by scores of 25-8 and 25-14. After dropping the firs two sets the Lady Vikes offense showed signs of life and took the third set by a score of 25-17. Hoping to climb back into the match, Spokane put the pedal to the medal defeating Big Bend by a score of 25-13 resulting in a 3-1 loss for BBCC. Audrey Wellhausen was the heartbeat of the Viking offense collecting 5 kills with a hitting efficiency of .294.

Moser had this to say regarding the loss "We finally came alive in the third set. It's amazing what can happen for you when you're the team that comes out swinging and going on a run in the start of a set. We had 12 kills with a hitting efficiency of .391, and stats aren't everything but when you look at those numbers, they sure help. We just need to find a way to be that team more, instead of just here and there, being consistent in the game of volleyball finds you on the winning side more often than not. But we've just seen a lot of mountains and valleys and been riding in the valley as of late, so just need to slowly start working our way out one point at a time, one set at a time and one match at a time. We still have the whole second half of season ahead of us and if we build off of what we did in that third set against Spokane, things will start falling into place for us."

Still looking for their first conference win, Moser is optimistic knowing what to expect from their opponents moving forward stating "It's frustrating to see a 0 in the wins column, especially at the point where we've played everyone in our region. But the good news is that we have seen everyone now, we know exactly what to expect."

As always, keep up with the Lady Vikings on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
