Conference Struggles Continue

Coming off a tough loss at home versus the Columbia Basin Hawks, the Lady Vikes had a quick turn around as they hit the road to take on the Yakima Valley College Yaks.

Missing one of their top players in Dakota Killian made it an uphill battle from the start. Missing one of their top offense weapons along with Killian's ability to defend reflected in the result of the match as Yakima Valley took three straight sets with scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-18. Casey White put together a stellar offensive showing with 9 kills but the rest of the squad was unable to fill Killian's shoes.

Coach Moser had this to say regarding the contest, "Each set we came out to a slow start, we let Yakima go on runs of 6-7 points and it's hard to constantly be competing from behind. In the middle of each set, it was a a lot of back and forth, trading points, long rallies, there was good fight but because of how we started, we were just constantly a few points behind and that's mentally draining, and you could really see that affect our girls."

With the Lady Vikes struggling to begin their conference schedule, Moser had this to say regarding the ramifications of the match. "Losing our 4th straight league matchup is frustrating. They say winning is a habit, but unfortunately so is losing, so we're really going to have to take a good look at ourselves in the mirror and make a change. The good news is it's all in our control, we've been the ones getting in our own way, so if we clean up our mistakes, we're going to see ourselves coming out on top in a few more matches."

BBCC prepares to take on NIC at home this upcoming Wednesday and understand that they will have their hands full. "We have a tough week ahead of us. NIC at home on Wednesday will be challenging. They're #1 in the East Region and #2 overall in the NWAC, so it will be good for the girls to see some the best competition in the conference. And then we're on the road to Treasure Valley Friday. Long road trips are hard, especially when you're going to play a top team. Practices this week will focus a lot on executing and finishing plays. They'll be very competitive and up tempo as we're going to see some fast pace volleyball and a lot of tough swings" said Moser.
