Men's Wrestling Split Duals on Oregon Trip

Men's Wrestling Split Duals on Oregon Trip

This weekend, the Big Bend Community College men's wrestling team traveled to Oregon to face conference rivals Umpqua Community College and Southwestern Oregon Community College. Despite missing regular starters at three weight classes—125, 174, and 197 pounds—the Vikings showcased their resilience and grit.

Freshman Luke Bayne stepped up to wrestle at 165 pounds, while his teammate, Freshman Jaden Lopez, bumped up to compete at 174 pounds. Unfortunately, BBCC had to forfeit 125 and 197 pounds, giving their opponents a 12-point advantage before the matches even began.

Despite these challenges, the Vikings delivered a strong performance. BBCC secured a historic victory over Umpqua CC with a final score of 30-21, marking the program's first-ever dual win. They battled hard against SWOCC but ultimately fell 32-21.

Head Coach Daviaire Dickerson, in his second year at the helm, reflected on the milestone:
"The season has been off to a fast start. This past weekend, we earned our first win as a program. Our guys wrestled tough in both duals but have plenty of work to do."

Freshmen Simon Cervantes, Alex Barajas, Drake Wood, and Hunter Tibodeau led the charge, going undefeated in both matches and earning crucial bonus points in their victories.

The Vikings will look to carry this momentum into the Spokane Open next weekend as they continue to build on their strong start. As always, keep up with the Vikings on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
