Lady Vikes Extend Win Streak to Six with Dominant Road Victory
Currently riding a five-game win streak and sitting atop the Eastern Region, the Lady Vikes aimed to make it six straight as they traveled to Wenatchee to face the Knights. Knowing they were up against one of the bottom teams in the conference, BBCC looked to take care of business—and they did just that.
By halftime, the Lady Vikes had established a commanding 13-point lead after a suffocating defensive effort that held Wenatchee to just six points in the second quarter. BBCC maintained their intensity in the second half, extending their advantage and ultimately blowing out the Knights on their home court with a resounding 64-37 victory.
BBCC's defense was relentless, making it difficult for Wenatchee Valley's shooters to find open looks. The Knights struggled to find rhythm, shooting just 31% from the field. Meanwhile, despite an unimpressive 37% shooting night themselves, the Lady Vikes dominated possession, taking 20 more shots than their opponents. BBCC's edge came from their hustle, outscoring the Knights 36-11 in second-chance points and points off turnovers—proving to be the decisive factor in the game.
Riley Layton and Oaklie Jackman led the offensive charge, each tallying 16 points. Head Coach Preston Wilks emphasized the team's defensive focus after the game:
"Tonight, our main goal was to focus on defense. We felt that the best way to get the win was to hold them in check in case we didn't shoot well. And that is exactly how the game played out. We were ice cold from the arc in the first half, missing all of our three-point attempts. But defense saved us as we held them to 16 first-half points. I was happy to see that we came up with 17 offensive boards tonight, which was our second goal for the game. We're enjoying the season—it's been a fun ride so far!"
Next up for the Lady Vikes is a home matchup against Treasure Valley CC. They will host the Chukars on Saturday, February 8th, at the DeVries Activity Center in Moses Lake, looking to keep their momentum rolling.
