Lady Hawks Fend Off Lady Vikings

Lady Hawks Fend Off Lady Vikings

An inability to score out of the gate would, in the end, seal a 66-61 victory for the visiting Columbia Basin College Lady Hawks over the homestanding Big Bend Community College Lady Vikings on Wednesday (February 15) in NWAC East action.

The Lady Vikings would find themselves down 10-0 with 6:07 to play in the first quarter, before a layup by sophomore Callie Tolman notched the first points of the game for the Lady Vikings with 5:45 remaining in the first. The Lady Vikings would use the remainder of the first half to climb out of the hole, eventually pulling even at 36-all going into the half. The second half of play would be a back-and-forth contest between the two teams, with neither able to gain a significant advantage. However, the Lady Hawks would find a way to secure the win down the stretch in the closing minutes, as their offense proved too much for the Lady Vikings.

The Lady Vikings offense was paced by sophomore Ambra Hacker (21 points) and Tolman (20 points), as they combined for 41 of the Lady Vikings' 61 points. The Lady Viking offense was limited for the contest due to 22% shooting from three-point range (5-22), in addition to 22 turnovers. For the Lady Hawks, Trinidie Nichols led the offensive efforts with 20 points.

The NWAC East standings remain crowded at the top, with four teams separated by less than a game each, headed into their final three games of the season. The Lady Vikings (14-11 overall, 8-5 NWAC East) will play their final home contest of the season this Saturday (February 18), hosting Yakima Valley College (9-14 overall, 6-7 NWAC East), as well as honor sophomores Tolman, Hacker, Kassidy Alder, Gracie Rigby, and Kajsia Fuller in their final hoops action on the Big Bend campus. In their first matchup back on January 14th, Yakima Valley defeated the Lady Vikings 87-71. Saturday's game is scheduled to tip at 2:00pm, with the men's game to follow. As always, keep up with the Lady Vikings on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
