Lady Vikings Scorch Nets In Win

Freshman Macy Hellstern was one assist away from the illustrious triple-double, as the Big Bend Community College Lady Vikings notched a huge 87-78 home win on Saturday (January 28) versus Blue Mountain Community College.

Playing without leading scorer Ambra Hacker, Hellstern, known predominately on the season for her assist and rebound numbers, took over the scoring void for the Lady Vikings as well, shooting 10-13 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from three-point range, on her way to a career-high 29 points. She also paced the Lady Vikings with ten rebounds and nine assists. Sophomore Callie Tolman played major minutes in the win, posting 18 points, while freshmen Skylee Hopkins (16 points) and Dakota Killian (14 points) gave the Lady Vikings four players with double figures in the scoring column.

As a team, the Lady Vikings shot a combined 53% from the field, 64% from three-point territory, and 73% from the free-throw line, to hold off any Lady Timberwolf run thrown at them. In the loss, Jaelyn Brainard finished with 31 points for the Lady Timberwolves.

The Lady Vikings cap off the first half of NWAC Eastern Region play undefeated at home and in third place overall. The Lady Vikings (11-9 overall, 5-3 NWAC East) take to the road on Wednesday (February 1) to face North Idaho College (9-9 overall, 3-4 NWAC East). Gametime is set for 5:30pm, with the men's game to follow.
