Hellstern Leads Lady Vikings To Win

Freshman Macy Hellstern scored a career-high 20 points, and the Big Bend Community College Lady Vikings held on down the stretch to secure an important 75-73 NWAC East win over visiting Wenatchee Valley College on Saturday (January 21).

Despite getting out to one of their hottest starts of the season in the first quarter, the Lady Vikings would find themselves trailing the Lady Knights 34-29 at the half. But the offense would, once again, kick into high gear, as the Lady Vikings scored 46 points in the second half, capped off by a huge three-pointer by freshman Skylee Hopkins with under a minute to play to take the lead for good.

In addition to her 20 points, Hellstern led the team in assists with eight, while chipping in six rebounds. Freshman Dakota Killian finished with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Hopkins rounded out the Lady Vikings' double-figure scoring with her fourth double-double of the season, a 14-point, ten-rebound effort in the win. For the Lady Knights, Farrah Parrish finished with 20 points in the loss.

The Lady Vikings (10-9 overall, 4-3 NWAC East) will get some much-needed time off by way of an NWAC East bye early next week. Saturday (January 28), they will host Blue Mountain College (4-10 overall, 2-4 NWAC East) in the final contest of the first cycle of NWAC East play. Gametime is set for 2pm, with the men's game to follow. As always, keep up with the Lady Vikings on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
