Lady Vikings Drop Eastern Region Opener

Lady Vikings Drop Eastern Region Opener

Basketball is known as a game of runs, and the Big Bend Lady Vikings found themselves on the wrong end of what would turn out to be a game-deciding run, as host Walla Walla Community College jumped out to an 18-0 lead, on their way to an 82-43 win in both clubs' eastern region opener.

The Lady Warriors of Walla Walla held the visiting Lady Vikings scoreless in the first quarter, and it would not be until the 9:12-mark of the second quarter that Big Bend would get on the board, with a jumper from sophomore Callie Tolman. Tolman was the Lady Vikings' lone double-figure scorer, as she finished with 15 points on the night. The host Lady Warriors placed four in double figures, led by Darbi Avery's 16 points.

The Lady Warriors improve to 11-2 on the season and 1-0 in the eastern region, while the Lady Vikings drop to 6-7 on the year and 0-1 in eastern region play. The Lady Vikings will use a couple days to regroup, traveling to Spokane Community College on Saturday, January 7th, for another important eastern region contest. Gametime is set for 2:00pm, with the men's game to follow thereafter.
