BBCC Falls to Yakima Valley in Season Finale

The Big Bend Community College Vikings hit the road one last time to wrap up their 2025 season, facing off against Yakima Valley College in a battle against the Yaks. Hoping to close the year on a high note, BBCC aimed for a strong start but struggled to find their rhythm early on.

The Vikings shot just 35% from the field in the first half, with Diego Carrera carrying much of the offensive load. Carrera put up an impressive individual effort, going 5-for-6 from the floor and tallying 12 points. However, with little offensive support, BBCC found themselves trailing by 13 points at halftime, down 42-29.

Needing a spark to mount a comeback, the Vikings improved in the second half, shooting 44% from the field while tightening up their defense to hold Yakima Valley to just 35% shooting. Despite the defensive effort, the biggest difference came at the free-throw line. BBCC struggled from the stripe, making only 48% of their attempts, while the Yaks capitalized, converting 83% of their free throws.

Ultimately, BBCC fell 83-67 in their season finale. Carrera led the Vikings with 17 points, while Gil Gonzalez added 13, and Miguel Taylor provided a strong boost off the bench with 17 points of his own. Head coach Jason Hopkins was unavailable for comment following the game.

With the season now concluded, BBCC shifts its focus to preparations for the 2025-26 campaign, looking to build on their experiences and come back stronger next year.
