Vikings Fall Short in Final Home Game Against Walla Walla
The Big Bend Community College Vikings hosted their final home contest of the season on February 22 at the DeVries Activity Center, taking on the Walla Walla Warriors. The Vikings came out strong, showcasing an efficient offense and lockdown defense in the first half. BBCC shot 43% from the field and an impressive 63% from beyond the arc, while holding the Warriors to just 31% shooting over the first 20 minutes.
Sophomore Gideon Harris led the charge for the Vikings, helping them take a seven-point lead into halftime with a score of 35-28. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the second half as Walla Walla found their rhythm offensively. The Warriors shot 52% from the field in the final 20 minutes, steadily chipping away at the Vikings' advantage.
Despite Harris' dominant performance—setting a season-high 30 points on 12-of-17 shooting—the Vikings struggled to maintain their lead. The Warriors' sharp shooting ultimately proved too much to overcome, and BBCC suffered a heartbreaking defeat with a final score of 71-70.
Head Coach Jason Hopkins was unavailable for comment following the game. With their playoff hopes dwindling, the Vikings now turn their focus to their final matchup of the season, a road contest against Yakima Valley on Wednesday, February 26.
