Vikings Open Conference Play with Thrilling Overtime Victory
The Big Bend Community College Vikings tipped off their conference season in dramatic fashion, hosting the Wenatchee Valley Knights on Wednesday, January 8th, at the DeVries Activity Center in Moses Lake, WA. After a challenging 6-9 preseason, the Vikings delivered a gutsy performance to secure a 69-65 overtime win.
BBCC came out firing, shooting an impressive 51% from the field in the first half while stifling the Knights' offense, limiting them to 40% shooting. The Vikings' efficient scoring gave them a slim 34-30 lead heading into halftime.
The second half saw both teams locked in a competitive struggle. The Vikings worked tirelessly to protect their lead, but the Knights gradually chipped away. With the score tied at 57-57 at the end of regulation, the game was sent into overtime.
In the extra frame, the Vikings showed their resilience, outscoring the Knights and securing the victory. Gideon Harris put on a spectacular individual performance, pouring in 31 points while adding 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Dominik Wojna provided crucial support with 13 points and 8 rebounds, the only other Viking to score in double figures.
The victory gives the Vikings a strong start in conference play as they aim to make waves in the East Region standings as they travel to Treasure Valley Community College this upcoming weekend.
