Turnovers Bury Vikes Versus Top Seed YVCC

After getting back in the winning column, the Runnin' Vikes had a big test going up versus the top seed in the Eastern Region as they hosted the Yakima Valley Yaks on Wednesday February 21st at the Devries Activity Center.

Early on, BBCC struggled handling the relentless Yakima defense which heavily impacted the result of the game. The Runnin' Vikes could not manage to break the high pressure that the Yaks were playing with defensively resulting in 19 turnovers and just 20 points in the first half. Struggling to find open looks, BBCC shot 35% in the first half while only taking 23 shots, while YVCC managed to knock down 45% of the 40 shots they took in the first 20 minutes. With not a whole lot going Big Bend's way, the Vikes went into the break trailing by 22 points with a score of 42-20.

The second half opened up with the BBCC offense showing signs of life. Creating open shots and dissecting the Yak defense showed on the stat sheet with the Vikes knocking down 59% of their shots in the second half with Diego Carrera leading the way scoring all 15 of his points in the second half. Although the Vikes were able to turn the page, the damage had been done. BBCC was unable to overcome the first half deficit resulting in a tough loss with a final score of 83-64. Mailk Beauford led the Runnin' Vikes in scoring dropping 17 points and 6 rebound with Diego Carrera adding 15 points of his own while collecting 6 rebounds in the loss.

Head Coach Jason Hopkins was unavailable to comment regarding the loss.

The Runnin' Vikes hit the road this Saturday to face off versus the Walla Walla Warriors to play their final road game of the season.
