Harris Drops 24 In Loss To Hawks

With the second half of the conference schedule upon us, the Runnin' Vikes are in must win territory for the playoffs remain a reality. With that being said, taking on the 5-1 Columbia Basin College Hawks at the Devries Activity Center on Saturday February 3rd would be a challenge in itself.

The Vikes came out sluggish offensively which ultimately put their defense in a pinch. With unproductive offensive possessions, the defense was tasked with keeping the game within reach until the offense was able to get going. The first 20 minutes of play were all CBC resulting in the Vikes going into halftime trailing by a score of 39-25. With a 14 point deficit in front of them, the Runnin' Vikes offense came to life. Shots began to fall led by Gideon Harris who managed 24 points over the course of the contest with a majority coming in the second half. The Vikes won the second half, outscoring the Hawks 39-35, but the first half came back to bite them resulting in a 74-64 loss to the top seed in the Eastern Region.

Gideon Harris was the star of the show for the Vikes dropping 24 points on an efficient 11-18 from the floor, LJ Ginnis got off to a hot start scoring the first 10 points for the Vikes and then was shut down by the CBC defense limiting him to just 3 more points the remainder of the game finishing with 13 on 50% shooting. Outside of Ginnis and Harris, no other Vike was able to crack double digits in the loss.

Head Coach Jason Hopkins was unavailable to comment regarding the loss.

Up next, the Vikes host the Spokane Falls Sasquatch on Wednesday February 7th at 7:00pm at the DAC.
