Turnovers Haunt Runnin' Vikes In Conference Opener

BBCC opened up conference play on Saturday January 6th on the road in Pasco, WA as they took on the Columbia Basin College Hawks. After a tough preseason, the Runnin' Vikes wanted to use the start of conference play as a clean slate.

The Vikes came flying out of the gate in the first half putting together a stellar half shooting 50% from the floor, 38% from deep and were a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Gil Gonzalez led the Vikes in the first half dropping 12 points on 4-7 while collecting 5 rebounds. Going into the break BBCC led the Hawks by a score of 31-29. BBCC was able to continue shooting the basketball at a solid 43% from the floor but struggled from deep. Not only did the Viking shooting slow down but the Hawks shooting came alive shotting 59% from the floor and 43% from beyond the arc. With the lopsided shooting percentages the lead dwindled quickly and the Hawk began extending their lead. CBC outscored BBCC 41-28 in the second half resulting in a 70-59 loss for the Vikes in their first conference competition. Gil Gonzalez led the Vikings in scoring with 21 points and 11 rebounds collecting his first double double of the season While Gideon Harris chipped in with 14 points and 3 rebounds in the loss.

The Vikes have no time to sulk as they head to Spokane, WA on Wednesday January 10th to face off versus the Sasquatch.
