Vikings Suffer Setback Against Spokane Falls, Playoff Hopes Hinge on Final Series

With their playoff hopes still hanging in the balance, Big Bend Community College took the field Saturday, May 3, needing a pair of wins to stay in the hunt. Wrapping up a four-game series against Spokane Falls CC, the Vikings were hoping to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season. Unfortunately, what unfolded was a tough reminder of the highs and lows that have defined BBCC's season.

Game one started ominously for the Vikings, as they quickly found themselves in a 6-0 hole. Despite showing some life at the plate with seven total hits, the offense never fully clicked. Rory Swanson and Rylan Osbjornsen each collected two hits to pace BBCC, but the effort wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit, as they dropped the opener 8-2.

Game two spiraled quickly. A gusty second inning turned Spokane's fly balls into wind-aided home runs, and the Sasquatch capitalized with an explosive eight-run frame that broke the game wide open. The Vikings never recovered, and the game ended in a lopsided 14-0 defeat—capping a forgettable Saturday at the yard.

With the losses, BBCC fell to 10-14 in conference play and now faces a must-sweep scenario in their upcoming final series against Treasure Valley. If the Vikings are to keep their playoff hopes alive, they'll need to regroup quickly and deliver their best baseball of the season in what promises to be a high-stakes showdown.
