Vikes Starting to Take Shape

Vikes Starting to Take Shape

BBCC Baseball's weekend began with their home opener versus Wenatchee Valley College for a two game set on Friday March 17th at Viking Field in Moses Lake.

The Vikes horse, Hunter Gibson was handed the ball to begin the series and did not disappoint. Gibson threw a 9 inning complete game shut out while punching out eight, leaving the rest to the offense. With Gibson setting the tone early the offense was able to take care of business in the first inning scratching across two runs on a couple two out RBI's from Ben Schnurman and Dalton Miller. Dalton Miller led the way offensively going 3-4 with 2 RBI's and Parker Plato and Ben Schurman each collecting two hits a piece to get the Vikes their first victory of the weekend with a score of 4-0.

Game two was another stellar starting pitching display for the Vikings as Tim Williams got the start and threw 8 innings of four run baseball with only two runs being earned while striking out six. The Viking offense was silenced while only being able to put up 3 hits over the course of the game resulting in a 4-0 loss to split the day.

The Vikes then traveled to Wenatchee, WA on Saturday for a rematch with Shorline CC. Hayden Schooler started game one and was able to collect his first collegiate win while tossing 5 scoreless innings and racking up a career high 12 strikeouts. The ball was handed to the bullpen in the sixth and they took the Vikes home allowing two runs over the final four innings and letting the offense take care of the rest. BBCC was able to manage 7 runs on 10 hits with Jett Nelson, Andrew Aitken and Kyler Nilson each collecting two knocks a piece in a 7-2 victory.

Game four was a defining moment for the BBCC Baseball as they have been unable to complete two victories in a day yet this season. Brayden Weatherman was handed to ball for game four and was forced out early due to shoulder discomfort after throwing four solid innings of two run baseball. The Vikes were down 5-2 entering the bottom half of the fifth inning where they were able to score three to tie in up at 5. Shorleline scored one in the top of the sixth and BBCC was able to answer scoring two in the bottom half. Andrew Aitken was the offensive standout going 2-4 with four RBI's with Dalton Miller and Jett Nelson chipping in two hits a piece. A 7-6 ball game going into the 7th inning is uncharted waters for the Vikes this season. Heath Hachkowski was able to throw an inning and two thirds of shutout baseball before handing the ball of the Zack Geertsen who closed it out with an inning and a third of shutout ball collecting his first collegiate save completing the day sweep with a 7-6 victory.
