BBCC Baseball trekked down to Roseburg, OR this past weekend for a four game set versus Umpqua Community College.
The Vikes came out firing in game one led by starter Devyn Hernandez who was terrific on the mound going 7 1/3 innings giving up just one run and striking out three with Michael Demand slamming the door going 1 2/3 with no hits or runs and striking out 2. The BBCC offense was a well oiled machine led by Brandham Ponce who collected 2 hits and 2 RBI's, Nate Naccarato went 1-3 at the plate and scored 2 runs while Kai Jones added in a hit and 2 RBI's taking the Vikings to a 6-1 victory.
The script flipped in game two as the Viking offense was held to one run and just 5 hits. Timmy Williams got the start for the Vikings and threw five quality innings giving up 2 un earned runs and striking out 4. Dalton Miller was the lone hitter for the Vikes who collected two hits and scored the only Viking run. Plagued by errors the BBCC fell by a score of 5-1 in game two.
Game three came on Saturday March 12th with Dylan Gardner getting the start and throwing 6 solid innings giving up 3 runs and striking out 7. A stagnant Viking offense was unable to manufacture runs similarly to game two and the Vikes fell by a score of 7-2.
Hoping to finish up the weekend with a split the Vikes needed to respond, and did. Led by Hawaii Hilo transfer Zakaia Michaels who put on a clinic on the mound going 8 innings, striking out 3 and only giving up two runs while Nate Akesson slammed the door getting the final three outs while striking out one batter. The Viking offense came alive with 11 hits, Brandham Ponce went 2-4 with 2 runs scored, an RBI and his second home run of the season along with Tanner Pedroza chipping in with 2 hits and two runs scored while Jetts Nelson blasted a two run home run for his first collegiate hit taking BBCC to a 9-2 victory.
BBCC takes on Edmonds and Pierce Community College this weekend at Viking Field!
