Lady Vikes Take Home 5th At NCWA Women's Freestyle Championship

Going into the NCWA Women's Freestyle Championship shorthanded with only four athletes registered made it a challenge for BBCC prior to the first match of the weekend. With a limited number of competitors BBCC Women's Wrestling took the weekend as an opportunity to fine tune and polish their technique with results being a bonus. With the NCWA Women's Freestyle Championship being one of the final large events for Viking Wrestling prior to the National tournament Head Coach Desiree Zavala was pleased with how her athletes performed stating.

"The girls wrestled pretty well. Freshman Jhaile DeGuzman, and Natalie Johnson both wresteled well. Natalie showed great improvement compared to her wrestling in previous weeks. Jhaile wrestled well through a six man RoundRobin. It was a lot of wrestling, and she did a great job of staying focused and ready to go."

Jhaile DeGuzman and Natalie Johnson both took home 2nd place in their respective weight classes while Sam Meyers and Emily Barragan were unable to place. Although not all members placed collectively the Lady Vikes were able to take home 5th place in the NCWA Women's Freestyle Championship.

The Lady Vikes prepare for the Washington State University and Evergreen University dual this upcoming weekend on February 4th in Pullman, WA.

As always, keep up with the Lady Vikings on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
