Three Lady Vikes Place At Boxer Open

Three Lady Vikes Place At Boxer Open

After a lengthy stretch of no competition, BBCC Women's Wrestling traveled to Pacific University to Compete in the Boxer Open on Sunday January 21st. This break was long and frustrating for the athletes but allowed for the Lady Vikes to gain much needed rest to get to 100% health. "We had two girls compete who both just got cleared from injuries. They competed well and I'm excited for the rest of the season", stated Head Coach Desiree Zavala.

Even with a long stretch of no competition, the Lady Vikes were able to bring home the hardware with three athletes placing in the top three of their weight class's. Samantha Meyers placed 2nd place at 170lbs, while Natalie Johnson also locked in a 2nd place finish at 109lbs along with Abby Varaday bringing home 3rd place at 136lbs.

With a quality weekend to build off of prior to the NCWA Freestyle National Championships hosted at Grays Harbor College this upcoming weekend, Head Coach Desiree Zavala is preparing how the program will move forward. "We had a long break of no competition, so this was a much needed weekend of competition for us. We have been working to improve our shots and offense. Based on our performance, we are going to shift our focus to defense this next week."

As always, keep up with the Lady Vikings on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
