Success At The Big Bend Scramble

BBCC hosted the first and final tournament with the Big Bend Scramble. Only having one athlete place the previous weekend, the Vikes hoped to take strides in the right direction at the Devries Activity Center. Head Coach Desiree Zavala was impressed with overall success of the tournament stating "The BBCC Scramble was our first and only home competition of the year, and overall it went very smoothly. The girls competed very well. Every single girl got a win, and they gave 100% effort."

With a plethora of success at the Big Bend Scramble, Zavala highlighted these athletes, "Natalie Smith went undefeated. Jhaile DeGuzman had her second loss of the season, wrestling up from 101 pounds to 116 pounds. Emilee Smith and Kyah Miller had key wins. Kyah surprised me! She showed aggression and technique that we hadn't seen from her all season."

After a stellar day of competition, the Vikes traveled to Spokane, WA to compete in the Spokane Open. Coming off a high success day, led to a slight crash when it comes to placement with only one athlete placing with Jhaile Deguzman taking home first place. "One of the biggest working points that we are working towards as a group is to stay consistent. Some days we are dialed in and look great, and some days not so much. The more live competition we have, the more that we will improve this area. We have been continuing to focus on executing the technique that we drill in practice every day."

After an up and down weekend Zavala had this to say moving forward "We are going to continue to work on our mind set, and pre match rituals to ensure that we are prepared when we step onto the mat. Our girls are still learning and developing, and have to work to find out what works best for them."
