De Guzman Takes Home Third At Mike Clock Open

Entering week three of the BBCC Wrestling season, the Lady Vikes had a busy weekend as they competed at Grays Harbor Community College on Saturday November 11th, followed by competing in the Mike Clock Open on Sunday. After a much improved week two placing four at Eastern Oregon, the Lady Vikes hoped to take another big step forward this weekend.

Although the numbers did not reflect the progress BBCC made this with Jhaile De Guzman being the only Lady Vike to place. Head Coach Desiree Zavala was optimistic with the strides they were able to make over the past week stating "The team showed improvement from last weeks competition. We are still not where we need to be as a group, I hold them to high standards and they are showing growth! We have been stressing the importance of working the technique that we drill at practice during our matches. It is something that is going to take time, because the transition of drilling techniques to executing it in a live match is very challenging".

Only placing did not seem to discourage Zavala as she understands the season is a sprint not a marathon as she highlighted "My main expectation for the girls is that they are working the technique that we are drilling daily in practice. Because it is early in the season, the main focus is that they are improving their skills and trying new things during their matches. If we continue to wrestle with proper technique and positioning the winning will eventually come!"

After a stellar weekend, Zavala has a plan in place to prepare for yet another busy weekend with Big Bend hosting their only competition with the Big Bend Scramble this upcoming Saturday followed by the Spokane Open on Sunday. This week the Lady Vikes will be "focusing on less live wrestling, and more hard drilling this week to prepare for a weekend of wrestling ahead" said Zavala.

As always, keep up with the Lady Vikings on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
