Lady Vikes Fall To The Falls

The Lady Vikes hosted their second to last home game on Wednesday as they battled it out versus the Spokane Falls Community College Sasquatch. Riding a lengthy losing streak BBCC hoped to bring their best accent the last team that they defeated. The first set seemed to set the tone for how the remainder of the match was going to go. It seemed as though whoever took set number one would ultimately come out on top. A true back and forth battle required several extra points, unfortunately the Sastquatch were able to take the firs set by a score of 29-27. A difficult loss seemed to take their air out of the building as the Lady Vikes struggled to get back to their first set form dropping the second and third set by scores of 25-13 and 25-18.

After dropping a winnable game for the Lady Vikes, Head Coach Alexa Moser had this to say "It was nice to see us start strong in set 1. After struggling with that against Blue, our focus had been on clean volleyball right away and siding out and for the first 15 points of set 1 we did exactly that. But then we let them go on a run mid set and found ourselves trying to fight our way back, and we did but when you have set point 3 times, you have to find a way to finish. Losing the first set that way, you can make one of two choices: we can realize that we are right there against a very competitive Spokane team and that they are very beatable, or we can choose to focus on our mistakes and how we didn't finish and unfortunately we chose the latter and let it defeat us and carry over into sets 2 and 3. When we were in system and running our middles offensively, things were grooving for us, but again, we can't have one person trying to carry the entire team. Dakota Killian had a great night with 10 kills and 4 blocks and I wish we could've used her even more, but we also needed everyone else to step up around her and we just couldn't get anything else going."

Prior to the match the Lady Vikes prepared accordingly based on their pervious match versus SFCC. "Our focus in practice this week has been a lot of ball control and serving. And to have both of those stats struggle last night was frustrating. If you don't have good ball control it's hard to run an efficient, in system offense and you can only send the ball over so many times and get away with it without the other team taking advantage. We couldn't find a way to score in those long rallies, the pressure of Spokane's offense won almost every time. At the end of the day, my message as of late has been to just go out there and compete, play fearless and we saw that for most of the first set but mentally we have to be able to come back from that first set loss if we want to find any success moving forward" stated Moser.

Dakota Killian was the lone offensive stand out recording 10 kills at .429 hitting efficiency, but as Moser has highlighted in the past, one player cannot carry a team. After another tough loss Moser's message to her team went like this "At this point in the season, this is a mental check for us. We only have 3 matches left on the season and we have to decide how we want to finish. "
