LADY VIKES SPLIT THE WEEK

LADY VIKES SPLIT THE WEEK

On Wednesday October 13th, 2021 the Lady Vikes hit the road to take on the Columbia Basin College Hawks in Pasco, WA. This match versus the Hawks was one of the most competitive competitions the Lady Vikes have had all season with the largest win margin being four points. Although a very competitive match the Lady Vikes fell three straight sets by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-21. Led offensively by Gabriella Rios with 17 kills and 15 digs on the defensive end, six out of the eight Lady collected at least one kill contributing to the hard fought match.

After a disappointing loss, the Lady Vikes planned to take the competitive edge into their match versus the Yakima Valley Yaks at home on October 15th at the Devries Activity Center. BBCC jumped out to a commanding lead in the first set and ran away with it defeating the Yaks 25-15. Using the momentum coming off a great first set the Lady Vikes kept rolling taking the second set by a score of 25-21. After taking a 2-0 lead the Lady Vikes hoped to complete the three set sweep but the Yaks did not go quietly. After falling in the third set by a score of 25-14, the fourth set gave Big Bend another opportunity to complete the match. The fourth set was a hard fought battle but the Lady Vikes ultimately fell 25-23 and pushed the match to a fifth and final set. The fifth set went to extra points with the Lady Vikes completing the victory with a score of 18-16. BBCC filled the score sheet with many contributing in the victory. Offensively the Lady Vikes collected a total of 53 kills, with Gabriella Rios and Elli Rodgers combining for 38 kills while Myah Gallinger served as the main facilitator for the Vikings offense collecting 47 assists. The Lady Vikes shone on the defensive end with Lacey Dalling, Jacklyn Balfourd, Myah Gallinger, Gabriella Rios, Mya Buchert and Jordyn Adams all collecting double digit digs.
