Softball's Southern Road Trip

Softball's Southern Road Trip

Playing their third, fourth, fifth and sixth games of the week, BBCC Softball headed down to Oregon to take on Treasure Valley CC and Blue Mountain CC this past weekend.

On Friday the Lady Vikes battled the Treasure Valley Chukars and got off to a slow start giving up 11 runs in the first inning after the 7 hour bus ride. The Lady Vikes took some time to get going but overcoming an early deficit proved difficult as the Lady Vikes dropped game one by a score of 14-5 with Truh Merriman going 2-3 with a triple and 2 RBI's and Marleigh Horrocks chipping in with a two run home run.

Game two was a different story, a back and forth battle that ended in a walk off victory for the Chukars brought the best out of both teams. Led offensively by Marleigh Horrocks who went 3-3 with two home runs and a double while driving in two, along with Jocelyn Chagoya adding in a double and driving in two resulting in a heartbreaking 8-7 loss for BBCC Softball.

Hoping to respond from a tough loss, the Lady Vikes traveled to Pendleton, OR to take on the Timberwolves of Blue Mountain CC. BBCC came out firing in game one on the offensive side and exploded for 16 runs resulting in a 16-6 ten run rule mercy in favor of the Vikings. Marleigh Horrocks picked up where she left off collecting another 3 hit game and driving in 2, while Truh Merriman and Gates Leatherwood mirrored each other with 3-4 games including a home run and 4 RBI's along with Olivia McKinnon capping off the victory with a perfect 4-4 game with a home run and 3 RBI's.

The Lady Vikes planned to take the final game to wrap up their Oregon road trip with a split but the big inning continued to haunt the Vikings. A tight ball game was crushed with Blue Mountain scoring 9 runs in the 4th innings making it difficult to battle back. Olivia McKinnon continued her offensive clinic going 3-4 with 2 RBI's and a home run capping off a 7-8 day along with Myia Ockey collecting 3 hits, while Marleigh Horrocks and Truh Merriman added home runs and drove in two a piece. Although a stellar offensive showing the Lady Vikes were unable to complete the comeback and fell by a score of 13-9.
