Moser Leads Lady Vikes to Double-Digit Win Season

After officially being eliminated from postseason contention, the Big Bend Lady Vikes aimed to finish their season strong as they hosted top-seeded Treasure Valley CC on Saturday, November 9th, at the DeVries Activity Center. Knowing the challenge ahead, BBCC delivered a gritty performance, keeping the first two sets extremely close before falling 25-21 and 25-22.

With the season on the line, the Lady Vikes rallied in the third set, taking it decisively by a score of 25-16. Despite their momentum, Treasure Valley closed out the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth set, giving the Lady Vikes a hard-fought 3-1 loss.

BBCC filled the stat sheet in this competitive outing. Devry Lausch anchored the defense with 17 digs, 2 assists, and a season-high 4 aces, while Emma Lucas and Addison Herbeck facilitated the offense with 17 and 15 assists, respectively. Katie Downing was on the finishing end with 9 kills, boasting an impressive .400 hitting efficiency.

Though they didn't secure the victory, the Lady Vikes showcased their resilience and ended the season with a performance they can build upon next year. Head Coach Alexa Moser had this to say regarding the final game of the season.

"After a frustrating night at Walla Walla, we had to turn around quickly for our last game of the season on Saturday against Treasure Valley and the girls showed up ready to play. Even though we dropped the first two sets, it was very competitive. Treasure Valley is a very good team and we were trading point for point in both sets. Losing 25-21 and 25-22 we were right there, you can't be mad about that when you're playing the #2 team in the East Region and #5 in the entire NWAC. Then we played out of our minds in set 3, we really found our rhythm both offensively and defensively and shut them down. Unfortunately set 4 didn't go the same but the girls gave it everything they had until the final point."

Moser also added.

"Even though we lost, this was a match I could walk away still feeling satisfied with how the girls played. They had every reason to keep their head high. They played with heart and grit and just were relentless. Nothing makes me prouder as a coach then to just see them out there playing for each other, selling out and celebrating their teammates success every point. Tonight showed just how much the sophomores mean to this program, playing for them and playing for the last time together."

After taking over the program and taking the Lady Vikes from a 2 win season to an 11 win season Moser recapped the year by stating.

"That wrapped up the 2024 season! Overall, there are so many highlights from this season that just shows the commitment from the sophomores in the off season and the freshmen who came in of buying into the new foundation of Big Bend Volleyball. There was so much growth from last year to this year, I'm excited to keep building success for this program."

Congratulations on a solid season!
