Lady Vikes Fall to Yakima Valley in Straight Sets

Riding high after a crucial win over Blue Mountain Community College, the Big Bend Lady Vikes hit the road to face Yakima Valley College, aiming to keep their playoff hopes alive. Despite a competitive effort, BBCC fell to the Yaks in three straight sets with scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 25-19.

The Lady Vikes were in contention throughout the match but couldn't find the offensive momentum needed to break through Yakima Valley's defense. Casey White led the Viking offense with 6 kills and contributed 2 block assists. Devry Lausch anchored the defense with 15 digs, while Emma Lucas facilitated the offense, collecting 11 assists in the loss.

With this setback, BBCC will look to regroup and find consistency as they approach the final stretch of conference play. Head Coach Alexa Moser had this to say regarding the loss.

"It was definitely nice to see the girls competing out there against a good team like Yakima. But there's no reason we couldn't have at least taken one set from them. I was proud of the girls heart and fight, they never gave up, especially in set 3 being down 24-12 and only losing 25-19. That's just grit. But that competitive fire needs to happen from point 1 to 25 and in each set."

Moser also highlighted the ramifications of the loss by stating.

"It's frustrating to see Yakima a second time around and see the same outcome of losing in three straight sets. Just like CBC, on a positive note, the sets were more competitive but we couldn't match their tempo consistently enough. Sets 1 and 2 we came out aggressive but then we would let them go on a run of 5-6 points in the middle of the set, but then find ourselves going on the same run at the end but just too late to make a difference. One of our biggest struggles this year is consistency. Whether it's the start of a set, middle of the set or end of the set, somewhere within those 25 points it's like we checkout and forget we're playing volleyball. Against good teams, they're going to capitalize and run with it and we'll find ourselves losing in those competitive matches."

With BBCC in must win matches the remainder of the season the Lady Vikes host Wenatchee Valley College on Wednesday November 6th. As always, keep up with the Vikings on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
