Office of Communications

Congratulations to seven Big bend Community College sophomore volleyball student-athletes who were recognized for their performance in the classroom by the Northwest Athletic Conference.

Ashlee Adams, Dakota Egbert, Katie Fujimoto-Young, Alex Gainer, Sadie Nielsen, Madison Shrope, and Martina wilder received the NWAC Academic Excellence Award for their outstanding academic achievements. This award is given to second-year student-athletes who have accumulated 36 or more credits and maintained at least a 3.25 GPA.

"This group of players is special and I truly loved coaching and being around every one of them," said Head Volleyball Coach Michael De Hoog. "Every player took ownership and actively participated in the growth of this program. This group of sophomores will always have a special place in my heart because, when our program was 1-30 two years ago, they took a chance on coming here to play at Big Bend. In two years, they helped turn a struggling program into a contender and have laid a foundation for us to become even more successful in the years to come. As good as our win/loss record was this season, it is the character and high academic standards of these young women that have impressed me the most."
