Big Bend was on the road Wednesday night in Spokane facing its toughest opponent to date. The undefeated Bigfoot team had won 19 straight matches to open the season — and unfortunately for Vikings fans, the blue and green would be victim number 20.
The Vikings (12-6 overall, 2-2 in NWAC) were swept by the Northwest Athletic Conference East Region co-leaders three games to none (25-11, 25-18, 25-8). Vikings Head Coach Michael DeHoog said that Spokane was a very solid team, but also felt that the Lady Vikings did not put forth their best effort. Big Bend struggled offensively managing just 13 kills (88 attempts) on the night coupled with 19 errors.
If you include last season, when Spokane finished a perfect 40-0, the Bigfoot has now won 60 consecutive matches.
The Lady Vikings have a chance to rebound on Friday evening when they return to the friendly confines of the Peter DeVries Center on the BBCC campus to host Blue Mountain. The Timberwolves (5-12, 0-2) have yet to pick up an NWAC East Region win this season. Friday's match begins at 6 p.m. and can be streamed live at https://www.nwacsportsnetwork.com/bigbend/.
