After a slow start to the weekend, Big Bend softball rebounded to win its final three games during the Northwest Athletic Conference's Crossover Tournament held at the Columbia Playfields in Richland, WA over the weekend. Freshman pitcher Ally Rook picked up two wins and fellow freshman Marleigh Horrocks picked up her second home run of the young season.
Big Bend 2, Clark College 12
The Vikings struggled defensively committing six errors in the tournament opener while only recording two hits on offense. The blue and green only gave up four earned runs with sophomore starting pitcher Alyssa Ray picking up the loss.
Big Bend 5, Mt Hood 4
After stumbling out of the gate for the weekend, Big Bend rebounded behind a strong outing from pitcher Ally Rook. The freshman gave up just four hits and 3 earned runs and picked up the win while helping her own cause with two hits at the plate.
Big Bend 12, Olympic 6
Freshman Kelsey Cardenas to the mound in the Day 2 opener going 4.1 innings before being relieved by Rook late in the third. Ally Rook threw the games final 2.2 and earned the "W" — her second of the weekend.
Big Bend 8, Pierce 4
In the crossover finale, Vikings sophomore pitcher Alyssa Ray would work 4 innings to get the win with help from Rook (2 innings) and Cardenas (save).
Marleigh Horrocks finished the tournament strong at the plate going 2-for-3 (double, triple) driving in 3 runs and scoring 1. Mesa Nielsen picked up a pair of hits (triple) and scored 2 runs with Alyssa Ray and Hanna Reid each adding doubles and an RBI.
The Vikings are now 5-1 on the season and will next be in action during the Region Crossover Tournament in Lacey, WA this weekend.
