McKinley Throws No-Hitter as Vikings End Season with Statement Sweep on Sophomore Day
With playoff hopes dashed earlier in the week, Big Bend Community College found new motivation on Saturday, May 10, turning their final doubleheader of the 2025 season into a celebration of perseverance, pride, and unforgettable performances.
On a day dedicated to honoring the program's sophomore class, the Vikings delivered a fitting send-off, sweeping Treasure Valley in dominant fashion behind a historic performance from left-hander Brendan McKinley. Making his final start in a Viking uniform, the sophomore ace delivered a masterclass on the mound, tossing a complete game no-hitter with a career-high 10 strikeouts in a 9-0 shutout victory.
McKinley's gem provided the spark, but it was the offense that lit the fireworks. Sophomore Davis Chakos put together a solid showing, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs to pace a relentless Viking lineup that tallied nine runs and left no doubt in the series opener.
With momentum on their side and emotions high, BBCC carried their energy into the second game, determined to finish the season on a high note. After falling behind early, the Vikings mounted a furious rally, plating five runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh to pull away for a 9-3 win.
The finale turned into a showcase for the sophomore class. Chakos, Oak Held, and Blaine Macdonald each collected three hits in their final game, while team captain Roman Basurto etched his name in Viking lore by blasting a home run in his final at-bat—a storybook ending to a standout career.
With the sweep, the Vikings closed the 2025 season on a high note, showing heart, pride, and a glimpse of what's to come from the program.
Though the season won't continue into the playoffs, the final chapter was a resounding reminder of the grit and spirit that defines Viking baseball.
