Vikings Drop Both In Season Opener

Vikings Drop Both In Season Opener

The Viking Baseball Program opened up their 2023 campaign against the Spokane Falls Sasquatch.

Coming off of conference history wins the previous year, the Vikes hoped to start off on the right foot versus their in-conference rival. Tim Williams got the ball to open up for the Vikings and was unable to get out of the first inning after struggling with his command. This set the tone for the day for the BBCC pitchers as free passes came back to bite the Vikes. A total of 9 free passes were issued in the first 2 2/3 innings leading to an early 10-0 deficit in game one. Joseph Moriarty was able to come in and calm the storm throwing 3 1/3 shutout innings to finish up a tough game 1 with a ten-run mercy rule.

Game two began in Viking like fashion with the Viking offense striking early and stellar starting pitching. Parker Plato led the offense with 2 hits and 2 RBI's on the day along with Dalton Miller chipping in two hits. Hunter Gibson got the start in game two and threw 4 scoreless while striking out 6 before handing it off to the bullpen. After 6 solid innings of work the command became and issue with Viking pitching handing out 9 more free passes over the final two innings resulting in an 8-3 loss.

The Vikes are set to take on Columbia Basin College and Centralia College this weekend in Pasco, WA on Friday and Sunday! Come out and support the Vikes!
