Vikings split 4-game weekend series at home with Pierce College

Big Bend Community College baseball split a pair doubleheaders with Peirce College on Saturday and Sunday. The Vikings are now 4-8 on the season. The blue and green will host a doubleheader with Grays Harbor on Friday at Larson Playfield with game times scheduled for 2 & 5 p.m. They will host Everett Community College for single games on Saturday (3 p.m.) and Sunday (2 p.m.).

Big Bend 7, Pierce 0

Vance Alvarado (1-2) and Kyle McPeak tossed a combined six-hit shutout with Alvarado going six innings and scattering 4 hits while striking out 3 for his first win of the season. McPeak gave up 2 hits in the final 3 innings with 1 strikeout.

Viking's leadoff hitter Evan McClean had a good game offensively going 2-for-4 at the plate with a home run and 3 RBIs. McClean also stole 3 bases. Matthew Plato (2-for-3) and Keakoakalni Wisneski (2-for-3) each had a pair of hits with Wisneski also picking up an RBI.

Big Bend 9, Pierce 4

Big Bend scored five runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to retake the lead and get the win in Game 2. Skyler Sadora had the hot bat picking up 3 hits (2 doubles) and driving in 2 runs.

Ryan Shipley (2-0) picked up his second win of the year working 5 complete innings and striking out 5 hitters while issuing just 1 walk. Trey Evans closed the door facing the minimum 6 hitters in the final two innings and striking out 2.

Big Bend 6, Pierce 12

Big Bend cut the Pierce lead to two runs (7-5) in the seventh inning but the Raiders answered with 3 runs in the 8th, and 2 runs in the ninth to keep the Vikings at bay.

Matthew Plato picked up his second home run of the season as part of a 2-for-3 effort at the plate while driving in 2 runs. Kristian Saldana, Skyler Sadora (double), and Keakoakalni Wisneski (double-2 RBIs) each added two hits offensively.

Evan McClean took the loss on the mound giving up 7 hits in 3.2 innings of work and striking out 2. 

Big Bend 1, Pierce 3

Scoreless after 5 innings, Pierce finally scored 2 runs in the top of the 6th and added an insurance run in the 7th to complete the series split. 

Skyler Sadora provided the Vikings only offense with a solo home run. Nate Akesson got the loss in relief of starter Cohen Achen who left the game scoreless after 3 innings of work (5 Ks).
