Baseball splits with Treasure Valley at home

Big Bend splits home doubleheader with Treasure Valley.

MOSES LAKE ­— Big Bend had to settle for a split with Treasure Valley, creating a three-way tie for second place in the NWAC East.

The Vikings (9-5, 12-15) took the opener 6-4 before losing the nightcap in seven innings 14-3. With the split, Big Bend is now tied with Yakima Valley and Columbia Basin for second place and trails Spokane by one game for the league lead.

Big Bend broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the eighth inning to take the lead for good in Game 1. Matthew Plato hit a go-ahead RBI double and Trevor Luckey added a pair of insurance runs with a blast over the fence.

Viking starter Ryan Shipley struck out 11 in seven innings. Hayden Knight picked up the win after two innings of relief.
