Lady Vikings Open Season With Two Road Wins

Big Bend Community College's Lady Vikings basketball opened the 2022-2023 season with two impressive back-to-back road wins.

In Friday's matchup versus NWAC-West foe Highline Community College, the Lady Vikings jumped out to a 44-21 halftime lead and never looked back, cruising to a 67-46 victory. Sophomore Ambra Hacker led the Lady Vikings with 19 points on 9-13 shooting from the field, while Skylee Hopkins finished with 17 points and a team-high 9 rebounds. Abbie Rhoades (12) rounded out the double-figure scoring for the Lady Vikings. As a team, the Lady Vikings shot 49% from the field (27-55), while holding the home-standing Thunderbirds to 33% (17-51).

Saturday's action against Northwest University's JV would prove to be much of a different contest. The Lady Vikings jumped out to a 24-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but scoring woes would plague them over the next two quarters, as the Lady Vikings were held to 14 total points. However, the Lady Vikings scored 18 points in the fourth quarter, paced by freshman Macy Hellstern's 14 points to go along with a team high in rebounds (7) and assists (4), to best the Eagles 56-53 and notch their second win of the season. Callie Tolman was the only other Lady Viking in double figures, as she finished with 13 points.

The Lady Vikings will take some time off for the Thanksgiving holidays, followed by a three-game round-robin matchup in the 26th annual Everett Community College Women's Basketball Classic.
