Lady Vikes Struggle During Busy Week

Lady Vikes Struggle During Busy Week

BBCC Softball prepared for a busy week, playing 7 games in 5 days.

The Lady Vikes Softball took on Mount Hood Community College on Wednesday March 9th. BBCC pitching struggled to stop the high powered Mount Hood offense. The Viking offense took a while to fire on all cylinders but was able to score 6 runs in the fourth inning courtesy of Marleigh Horrocks three run home run along with Olivia McKinnon also contributing with a three run home run. Unfortunately, the two long balls were not enough to pick up a win and the Lady Vikes fell by a score of 18-6.

BBCC got off on the right foot in game two taking a 7-0 lead after two and a half innings. Marleigh Horrocks had another 3 RBI game along with scoring two runs with Arianna Chritensen adding two RBI's and scoring 2 runs. Things were looking bright for the Vikes but Mount Hood was able to turn up the offense scoring 18 unanswered runs leading Mount Hood to a game two victory by a score of 18-7.

The Lady Vikes then traveled to Clackamas to take on the Cougars on Thursday, March 10th for another double header. Game one was a back and forth battle exchanging runs early in the game until the Cougars were able to step on the gas and score 6 runs in the bottom of the third inning and never looked back defeating the Vikings by a score of 14-6. BBCC had the long ball working for them with Arianna Christensen, Gates Leatherwood and Truh Merriman all leaving the yard, but it was not enough to take home a victory.

Game 2 was back and forth just as game 1 was. Both offenses were firing making it an extremely high scoring game. Marleigh Horrocks went 3-5 at the plate, scored three runs and collected an RBI on a solo home run, Danille Brklacich had 2 hits, scored 3 runs and a season high 6 RBI's and the Viking offense was capped off with Gates Leatherwood's 4-6 showing with 6 RBI's while hitting a home run for her second straight game. With both offenses going back and forth it came down to the wire but the Cougars were able to come out on top by a score of 24-20.

BBCC then traveled to Walla Walla, WA to take on South West Oregon CC for yet another double header where they ran into some tough pitching where the Lady Vikes only managed 1 hit and fell by a score of 14-3 in game one.

The Lady Vikes hoped to respond in game two. BBCC managed 10 hits but could not manufacture enough runs to keep up with SWOCC. Truh Merriman, Gates Leatherwood and Myia Ockey all chipped in with 2 hits a piece while Britney Brklacich had a perfect 3-3 day at the plate but it was not enough as BBCC fell by a score of 12-3.
