Vikes Split with Hawks

Vikes Split with Hawks

BBCC hosted the Columbia Basin College Hawks on Wednesday April 13th at Viking Field for a double header.

Dylan Gardner was handed the ball and racked up 12 strike outs over 5 innings of work allowing 4 runs. The BBCC offense battled to get Gardner the win but costly errors by the Vikings defense made this a challenging task and ultimately fell by a score of 6-4. Kai Jones collected 2 of the 4 Viking hits along with drawing 2 walks and scoring and driving in a run, Austin Bunn and Jett Nelson chipped in with the other two BBCC hits in an otherwise quiet offensive showing.

Game two was also quite for the Viking offense with only 3 hits, one by Austin Bunn, one by Brandham Ponce and one by Layne Adaro, but BBCC pitching had other plans. Timmy Williams carried BBCC to victory by going 7 strong innings giving up 1 earned run and striking out 7 leading the Vikes to a 3-2 win.

Games 3 and 4 came quickly with one less day of rest for the Vikes. BBCC traveled to Pasco, WA on Friday to finish up the series and came out flat in game on and fell by a score of 14-4.

Hoping to come out with a split in the series the ball was handed to the trusted Zakaia Michaels who did not disappoint. With 7 strong innings giving up 3 runs and striking out 4, Michaels was able to collect yet another win while approaching the 50 inning mark on the season. Gabe Passey was a star for the Vikes collecting 3 hits and driving in 4 while playing lights out defense. Parker Plato, Dalton Miller and Brandham Ponce all slashed 2 hits a piece while combining for 5 runs and 4 RBI's leading the Vikes to a 9-4 victory.
