Until Next Year

With two, first year coaches leading the charge for BBCC Spring Sports there were many unknowns. These potential question marks were answered quickly by the success that these coaches brought to the baseball and softball program.

Kylee Brulotte stepped in midway through the winter and turned the program around by making the Lady Vikes a playoff team in her first season with a record of 18-14 in conference. Using RPI rankings, BBCC was ranked 14th giving them a berth in the NWAC Tournament where they opened up versus the 3rd ranked Bellevue College. The Lady Vikes gave Bellevue a run for their money leading 15-13 going into the bottom half of the 8th inning. Bellevue was able to score three to ultimately walk it off by as score of 16-15 in extra innings to put BBCC in a win or go home situation.  The Lady Vikes then faced off against the familiar Columbia Basin Hawks in a Eastern Region showdown for who would continue for an NWAC title. Unfortunately this game followed a similar story line to the previous game with BBCC leading by one in the fifth inning and CBC scratching across three in the final two innings to secure a 12-10 victory sending BBCC home for the season.

BBCC Baseball is no stranger to playoff competition. Being a playoff team the past four seasons has made not only making the playoffs but competing for an NWAC Championship the expectation for the Vikes. With new head coach Chase Tunstall stepping in, the expectations remained the same. Tunstall led the Vikes to not only a playoff berth but the highest seed that the Vikes had been awarded in 10+ years. Being the two seed the Vikes hosted a 3 (Mount Hood) and 4 (Grays Harbor) with BBCC playing a best 2 out of 3 versus the winner of the 3 and 4 game. BBCC ultimately played Mount Hood in game one on Friday and lost a heartbreaker by a score of 7-6 putting them in the same position as softball in a win or go home situation. BBCC responded in game two by hammering the Saints by a score of 19-7 in 8 innings leading to the rubber match with the winner going to the NWAC Tournament. A back and forth battle that required an extra inning, but did not go in BBCC's favor as the Vikes fell by a score of 10-9 bringing their season to an end.

Great season Vikings!
