Big Bend sending 11 men to NCWA national tournament in Texas

In its first year back at Big Bend Community College since the 1994-95 season, the BBCC Men's Wrestling Program will be sending 11 wrestlers to the 2019 National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) National Wrestling Championships next week being held at the Allen Event Center Arena in Allen, Texas. These wrestlers earned their way with performances last week at the NCWA Northwest Conference Championships held in Aberdeen, WA.

In addition to qualifying for the national tournament, four BBCC wrestlers came home with Northwest Conference individual championships including Eduardo Rodriguez (133-pounds), Beau Wiebe (141-pounds), Cade Cox (149-pounds), and Roman Porter (184-pounds).

As a team, Big Bend finished in second place behind Gray's Harbor. 

"I am very proud of how we performed in our first season back at Big Bend," said Head Men's Wrestling Coach Jose Tanguma. "We have surpassed some of the goals that we set early in the year and we are looking forward to breaking even more of them as we fight as a team to get into one of the Top 10 spots at the NCWA National Tournament. Since the start of the season, the team has really shown a strong progression. We are a young team (all freshman) but we have a lot of heart, desire, and the correct attitude to be a successful team in the NCWA division. I am very proud of all we have accomplished this season."
