Second-Half Surge Not Enough

Second-Half Surge Not Enough

Playing their final game of the regular season, the Big Bend Community College Lady Vikings basketball team fell to host Blue Mountain Community College 71-68 on Saturday (February 25) in NWAC East action.

The Lady Timberwolves held the Lady Vikings to 28 points in the first half, on their way to a 14-point cushion at the half. However, the Lady Vikings would use a 40-point second half to pull even with the Lady Timberwolves at 65-all, on a layup by sophomore Callie Tolman, with 1:53 remaining in the game. Even so, less than 30 seconds later, the Lady Timberwolves would regain the lead for good and, consequently, the win.

Tolman led the Lady Vikings with 21 points, with sophomore Ambra Hacker and freshman Abbie Rhoades finishing with 13 points each, respectively. Freshman Macy Hellstern notched nine points and a team-high 12 rebounds. For the Lady Timberwolves, Jaelyn Brainard led the winning efforts with 28 points.

The Lady Vikings (15-13 overall, 9-7 NWAC East) currently find themselves one game out of a top four finish in the NWAC East, which would continue their season with an appearance in the NWAC Basketball Championships, beginning March 8th at Columbia Basin College. However, the top four teams currently each have at least one game remaining in their regular seasons, due to the Lady Vikings' bye for the final week of the region slate. It will be a wait-and-see process for the Lady Vikings over the coming days, to determine if their 2022-2023 run will continue. As always, keep up with the Lady Vikings on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram, as well as through the NWACSports Network's livestream video platform, where available.
