Bullpen Collapse Costs Vikes Game Two

Bullpen Collapse Costs Vikes Game Two

BBCC Baseball made their way to the other side of the mountain for four games, but due to weather were only able to play a double header versus Shoreline CC on Saturday March 4th.

The Vikes came out swinging it in game one in typical Viking fashion. A team that regularly finishes in the top 5 in most offensive categories showcased their trademark by scoring 13 runs in a 7 inning 10 run mercy rule. Ben Schnurman continued his offensive tear going 2-4 with a home run, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI's, along with Dalton Miller and Brock Rindlisbacher collecting two hits a piece and driving in two, rounded off by Heath Hachkowski going 2-2 with 3 walks and scoring 3 runs. Hunter Gibson was handed the ball and did not disappoint tossing 6 innings giving up 1 earned run while striking out 8 before handing the ball off to Turner Domann who threw up a zero to wrap up a 13-2 victory.

Game two began similar to game one with the Vikes swinging a hot stick and jumping out to a 7-1 lead through five and a half innings with Tim Williams on the bump. Williams ran out of gas in the sixth and was forced to hand the ball off to the bullpen. The bullpen has experienced it's early bumps with a freshman heavy group this season. Game two was another example of the young staff's struggles giving up 9 runs in the final 3 innings including a grand slam in the 8th inning to make it a 10-9 ball game. The Viking offense was sharp scoring 9 runs on 9 hits led by Parker Plato with 3 hits and 3 RBI's, Heath Hachkowski continued his stellar offensive day collecting two more hits and driving in two, capped off by Kai Jones reaching base 4 times and scoring 2 runs. Although a stellar offensive and defensive display, the bullpen was unable to hold the lead resulting in a 10-9 loss.

The Vikings prepare to take on the Walla Walla Warriors this upcoming Friday and Saturday with Saturday being the home opener for the Vikes!
