Vikes Clinch 2 Seed

Vikes Clinch 2 Seed

The past three weeks the Big Bend Vikings baseball team has been tough to beat. The last 12 games the Vikings have an 11-1 record currently riding an 7 game win streak while hitting .291 as a team with 36 extra base hits including 11 home runs and averaging just over 9 runs per game. The offense has not been the only factor in BBCC's recent success. The pitching has been stellar putting together a 3.86 ERA as a staff over 107 innings.

BBCC began their four game set versus the Yakima Valley Yaks at Viking Field on Wednesday May 11th needing to win two out of the four to clinch the two seed in the East to earn the right to host a Regional. The Vikes did not mess around and took care of business on their yard. The pitching set the tone for the day with Dylan Gardner tossing 7 innings of one run baseball striking out 8, along with Timmy Williams slinging 7 2/3 innings of one run ball while striking out 7. Both games were closed by Brandham Ponce who was a force on both sides of the ball. Ponce threw 2 1/3 innings of shut out baseball while striking out 3 along with going 4-7 at the plate with a home run and 3 RBI's. With lights out pitching, the BBCC offense did their part with Austin Bunn going 4-8 with 3 RBI's and Kai Jones going 4-8 at the dish. The Vikes were able to defeat the Yaks by scores of 4-1 and 7-1 to clinch the two seed.

BBCC will host a 3 seed from the South and a 4 seed from the West next Friday and Saturday at Viking Field. The Playoff format begins with the 3 and 4 seed playing in a win or go home game on Friday, followed by the winner facing off against the Vikes in a best 2 of 3 to determine who goes to the Final 8.

Come out and support the Vikes!
