Big Bend Lady Vikings move up to Eight in Coaches Poll
Midway through the conference schedule, the Lady Vikes continue to make noise throughout the NWAC, currently ranked #8 out of 33 programs. BBCC has proven to be a force on both sides of the ball, with impressive statistics to back up their dominance.
Offensively, the Lady Vikes are thriving, sitting 3rd in offensive efficiency. Their scoring prowess extends across the court, but their true strength lies in their perimeter shooting. BBCC leads the NWAC in both three-point attempts and makes, hitting from beyond the arc at an impressive 32%, the fourth-highest rate in the league. Additionally, they rank 7th in overall field goal percentage, converting 41% of their shots.
Defensively, BBCC has been equally formidable. Their high-pressure defense has limited opponents to just 36% shooting from the field while allowing the third-fewest points per game at 56. This balance of offensive firepower and defensive tenacity has made the Lady Vikes a well-rounded and formidable squad.
The team's scoring is well-distributed, with three players averaging double-digit points. Oaklie Jackman has been a standout, averaging 11.4 points per game on an efficient 53% shooting while dominating the boards with 8.9 rebounds per game. While Jackman controls the paint, Katie Hansen and Oakley Homer provide perimeter threats, both averaging double-digit points and nearly three three-pointers per game at a near 40% clip.
Head Coach Preston Wilks praised the team's recent efforts, stating, "The ladies have had really good focus and effort over the last two weeks, resulting in our current 5-0 win streak. We have purposely focused on our defense, as we know that you can't always count on your shots falling, so we've decided to make defense a priority. During this five-game stretch, we've held our opponents to an average of just 53 points per game. This ranking is nice, as it is always nice to see that others value and recognize our recent efforts. But we are playing for much more than the ranking; we are playing to be better over the second half of Region play compared to the first seven games. We are excited to see what lies ahead."
With strong performances on both ends of the court and a dedicated mindset, the Lady Vikes are poised to continue their successful run as they head into the second half of the season.
